Slicehost Rocks!
December 15th, 2007 7:48 AMI’ve only been using Slicehost for a few days, but I already love it! Slicehost provides virtual private servers (VPS) that come installed with nothing but the distro of your choice starting at only $20/mo. with no setup fee. This is perfect for developers or for people who want to configure their own servers. No more dealing with crappy shared web hosting or dealing with ridiculously expensive VPS or dedicated servers!
Here’s a full list of the different levels of “slices” they provide:
| Plan | RAM | Storage | Bandwidth | Monthly Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 256slice | 256MB | 10GB | 100GB | $20 |
| 512slice | 512MB | 20GB | 200GB | $38 |
| 1024slice | 1024MB | 40GB | 400GB | $70 |
| 2048slice | 2048MB | 80GB | 800GB | $140 |
And even better, they offer an extremely simple backup feature that starts at $5/mo. for a 256slice. Something really cool is you can even clone a slice to another one via a backup. This is perfect for those of you who want a development server.
There’s also a really good community with lots of great help with a blog, chat room, forum, wiki, and articles. If you’ve been too scared to administer your own server, then this is your chance to do it easily!
You really should shed that awful web host that you currently have and try out Slicehost. You’ll really like it! I know I do.
