Webon

December 27th, 2007 9:00 PM

Webon is a new site that enables you to easily publish your own site without any hassles. Right now, there’s a special sneak preview brought to you by BzzAgent’s Frogpond.

It’s free and easy to use with a drag-and-drop interface that even a toddler could manage. There are prefab Website Kits that make the whole process really simple, and if you’re an advanced user, then you can even make your own Website Kits to share with other people in the Webon community.

I’ve played around with it and think it’s pretty cool. I’d definitely use it if I didn’t already pay for a virtual private server.

Why don’t you give it a shot?

IX Webhosting

December 20th, 2007 9:31 AM

For the last couple years, whenever someone has asked me for a shared web host recommendation, I’ve pointed them in the direction of IX Webhosting. I used them for two years and am happy I did, as they’re inexpensive with decent service. I’ve had no problem reaching them via email, chat, or phone whenever I need assistance. In particular, I recommend the Business Plus Linux plan, which costs only $6.95/mo.

In exchange for a few measly dollars, you get a really freaking good deal:

  • Unlimited domains
  • 1000GB web space
  • 2 Free domains
  • 8000GB data transfer
  • 8 dedicated IP addresses
  • MySQL/PostgreSQL
  • PHP/Perl
  • And a whole lot more!

The cheaper plan doesn’t offer database support, so don’t get that. The more expensive plan doesn’t really add much, so don’t get that either. Get the middle plan, and for the love of God, don’t get the Windows plan.

The main reason I moved was so I could have a little more control over my server to deal with heavy traffic and custom applications. If you don’t expect millions of hits each week, then IX Webhosting is a really good place to park your website. They’re no fly-by-night operation like many other inexpensive web hosts and actually do have good service for a good price.

Chapstick(R) 100% Naturals

December 19th, 2007 4:35 AM

I always always always have some sort of lip moisturizer on me. It doesn’t matter what the weather’s like or if I need to pucker up. It’s simply an essential part of my everyday life, and I’m always applying it. If I don’t, then my lips get really chapped. As a result, I’m really happy that one of BzzAgent’s latest campaigns is about Chapstick® 100% Naturals. I have sensitive skin and allergies, so I was a bit concerned that using a product made with so many plant products would be a problem. However, it hasn’t been a problem at all, and I’m happy that I’m not applying all sorts of artificial additives everyday to my lips. The taste of the lip moisturizer isn’t too bad either. Others can be overpoweringly artificial at times. Who really wants to taste like a fake cherry all day? Plus, it’s not like paying for something that’s all natural is more expensive. Each one is priced at $2.79 retail. That’s definitely not outrageous for something that keeps my lips from being chapped for months. They even take the natural thing to all the way: the packaging is recyclable, and they don’t test on animals.

ChapStick® 100% Naturals is available in two varieties:

  • ChapStick® 100% Naturals Lip Butter: A blend of five natural butters, including shea, avocado and mango butters
  • ChapStick® 100% Naturals Botanical Medley, with sunflower oil, coconut oil, jojoba, and beeswax

I’ve only tried the former thus far, but if the latter is even half as good, then I’ll be very happy with it.

Also, if you would like to participate in great campaigns just like this one and get free samples and special offers, then just leave a comment with your email address. I would be very happy to send you a referral to BzzAgent.

Search with Google but Win Stuff!

December 16th, 2007 8:36 AM

BlingoSince I joined Blingo on February 24, 2006, I’ve won fourteen prizes!!!

  1. $5 Amazon.com Gift Certificate
  2. $5 Amazon.com Gift Certificate
  3. $1,500 Cash
  4. Fandango Movie Ticket
  5. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  6. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  7. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  8. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  9. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  10. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  11. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  12. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate
  13. $200 Visa Gift Card
  14. $10 iTunes Gift Certificate

What is Blingo? Well, Blingo is a search engine that uses the exact same search engine as Google, except they randomly award prizes to users using Blingo to search. If you win, then your search results will display that you’re a winner and ask you for your details so you can claim a prize. It’s really that simple (and lucrative)! This really is a no-brainer to join, so instead of going to Google, I always go to Blingo instead.

Update (1/21/08): I’ve created a Google gadget that allows you to search using Blingo from your iGoogle page. Try it out!

A webmaster is usually aware of the fact that pay per click is almost a mandatory marketing move. This is why he finalizes such details at the time of selection of domain names.

Slicehost Rocks!

December 15th, 2007 7:48 AM

I’ve only been using Slicehost for a few days, but I already love it! Slicehost provides virtual private servers (VPS) that come installed with nothing but the distro of your choice starting at only $20/mo. with no setup fee. This is perfect for developers or for people who want to configure their own servers. No more dealing with crappy shared web hosting or dealing with ridiculously expensive VPS or dedicated servers!

Here’s a full list of the different levels of “slices” they provide:

Plan RAM Storage Bandwidth Monthly Price
256slice 256MB 10GB 100GB $20
512slice 512MB 20GB 200GB $38
1024slice 1024MB 40GB 400GB $70
2048slice 2048MB 80GB 800GB $140

And even better, they offer an extremely simple backup feature that starts at $5/mo. for a 256slice. Something really cool is you can even clone a slice to another one via a backup. This is perfect for those of you who want a development server.

There’s also a really good community with lots of great help with a blog, chat room, forum, wiki, and articles. If you’ve been too scared to administer your own server, then this is your chance to do it easily!

You really should shed that awful web host that you currently have and try out Slicehost. You’ll really like it! I know I do.
